Unless you’ve been hiding under a rock over the past 24 hours (or you’re just not really into Twitter beef), you probably heard about the spat between Amber Rose and Khloe Kardashian.

We realized immediately that our little trial of online dating for seniors was something that resonated with people all over the world, and that we needed to go ahead and build something that would help us touch the lives of older adults everywhere.

But we can acknowledge the appeal of dating older dudes and still be grounded in a, perhaps harsh, reality at the same time: A relationship between a teen and an adult isn’t real. Duh, nobody is going to deny that feelings can’t be felt.

I have no interest in sitting here and saying that your heart palpitations for an older guy you might be dating aren’t real. But when we’re talking about a relationship between a teenager and an adult who is significantly older–yeah, not just some 16-year-old dating an 18-year-old–there is often something weirdly fraudulent about it.

It has felt a bit strange, then, that the article which inspired Stitch doesn’t appear on the Stitch blog.

We thought it was high time we republished it here, updated to reflect what we’ve learned from the thousands of people who have registered for Stitch so far and told us their stories.
